We are the high school gathering of Morning Star Community Church.
We meet on Wednesdays at 7 pm.
Our heart and mission here at RIOT is to provide a place for high school students to learn about Jesus Christ. That’s what we’re all about. We’ll have fun, hang out with our friends, even get a little crazy at times, but it always comes back to what is most important– Jesus. Whether you are just checking out who Jesus is or want to grow deeper in your faith, RIOT is the place for you.
My name is Michael. My wife is Kristin. She’s awesome. We’ve just had our first child, Norah. We’re pretty excited about that. We also have a dog. His name is Mozzie. He’s pretty fun.
I’m a student at Western Seminary where I study the Bible and stuff. I like playing guitar and piano. I also like good coffee.
I love seeing high school students learn to walk with Jesus, live for Him, and be rooted in the Word of God. Best thing ever. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to pastor high school students at this church.
My husband Michael and I have been married since May 2012! We’ve just become parents to our first baby, Norah! We also have an adorable little dog named Mozzie.
I think I have the coolest job in the world. I get to work alongside our handsome High School Pastor, Michael, who also happens to be my husband. It’s the best. I’ve been the High School Director here since 2010, and a major part of my role at Morning Star is taking care of our high school girls and all of our female discipleship staff. Michael and I love hanging out with high school students, and we also lead a Community Group of young adults. I get excited about helping students fall in love with Jesus in high school in a way that will help them follow and serve Him for the rest of their lives.
Here are a few other random things about me: Central Oregon is one of my favorite places to get away with my hubby, and Target is one of my favorite places to spend time “alone.” I am a homebody at heart who loves decorating and re-decorating my house any chance I can, and my favorite TV show is Parenthood. Also, at first glance I may come across as serious and introverted, but I am actually quite funny. I promise.
Hey, I’m Brandon! I became a follower of Jesus through the high school ministry here at Morning Star in 2009, so I have a special place in my heart for high school students. It’s a great honor and privilege to be leading and loving high school students in the same ministry that showed me the love of Jesus for the first time. I recently graduated from Multnomah University, and my time there was formational for my love of Scripture and my philosophy of leadership: The greatest leaders are the humblest servants. I’m honored to be a member of the servant leadership here at Morning Star.
I love studying and teaching God’s word. One of the biggest passions that shapes my life is to see people fall in love with Christ and walk in meaningful, lifelong relationships with him as they encounter him through his written word. It’s amazing to work with high school students and help them as they grow in their walks with Jesus.
In my free time I love reading theology, biblical studies, and fiction; drinking delicious coffee, spending time with my family and friends (chances are I’ll be cooking something), listening to great music, enjoying movies, and going on long drives in the country. As a musician myself (I’ve spent most of my life playing the cello), I love all kinds of good music. Some of my favorites include Radiohead, Gustav Mahler, Led Zeppelin (thanks, Dad!), and The Brilliance.
I look forward to getting to know you. Let’s grab coffee!
